History

MTSU began their inaugural season in the ACHA during the 2015-16 season after several years without a program.  As an independent member of the ACHA, MTSU hockey is building to improve each season by bringing in the very best talent to be competitive with other teams in the area.  Full-time students at MTSU are eligible to try out for the program and Coach Riherd actively recruits the very best talent in the Middle Tennessee area to field a team that strives to climb the ranks of the ACHA. Home games are played at the Ford Ice Center in Antioch, Tennessee.

Head Coach: Jasen Riherd

Equipped with an enormous amount of passion for hockey and his team, Head Coach Jasen Riherd has led MTSU hockey since their inaugural season in 2015.

Starting his foundation in Indiana, Head Coach Riherd began playing hockey to help become involved with other kids in his community. Moving around a lot in his childhood, he found that hockey kept him in place. He moved to Columbus, Ohio then traveled towards Michigan where he lived in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. From Michigan, he set off to Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania where he finished his hockey career playing for the Pittsburgh Jr Penguins.

During his career, Head Coach Riherd studied biomedical engineering at Vanderbilt University and business at Penn State University.

With the continuous support from coaches and teammates, hockey contributed a significant amount to his life. In return, he chose to become a coach to give players the same significant opportunity and experience he had.

Head Coach Riherd began his career coaching for the Nashville Youth Hockey League's U8 and U16 programs. Following, he then became head coach for Blackman-Stewarts Creek in the General Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey league (GNASH).

Now as head coach for MTSU, he continues to use his extensive coaching skills and serve as a mentor to prepare the Blue Raiders towards success on and off the ice.
